Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ)
The Basic Prescription Drug Insurance Plan guarantees basic coverage for all Quebecers. Individuals not covered by a group insurance plan are eligible for the public plan, administered by the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ). The plan covers medications on the Liste de médicaments. Drugs not on this list may be covered by the RAMQ as a médicament d'exception.

What prescription medications does the RAMQ cover?
Medications on the Liste de médicaments (drug list) are covered as well as some smoking cessation products. Additionally, exception drugs listed on the Liste de médicaments d'exception (drug list) for which the Régie's prior authorization must be obtained before the Régie can pay are covered. How can you get coverage for a drug not on the Liste de médicaments?
Physicians must complete the "Demande d'autorisation de paiement médicament d'exception" form and submit it to the RAMQ to obtain approval from the Régie before the prescription is dispensed.
